Headline Details: The purpose of the Stratus mission is to demonstrate an inexpensive, upwardly scalable architecture capable of imaging clouds in the infrared spectrum and generating usable data for validating and improving existing climate and weather models. Stratus is a university-developed 3U CubeSat, carrying a thermal imager as its primary payload. The Stratus mission is heavily educational and has been designed and built solely by undergraduate students at Michigan Technological University. Students are responsible for everything from the scheduling and management of the program to all technical design and integration decisions. The Stratus mission contributes to the advancement of the amateur satellite service primarily through providing a real-world experience opportunity for Michigan Technological University students to gain experience planning and operating an amateur-band satellite. Additionally, the mission hopes to engage the amateur community at large by soliciting its help with initially locating the satellite after deployment. Proposing a UHF 9k6 2FSK downlink. Planning a launch from KSC to the ISS in May 2021 together with RamSaT & ARKsat-1. More info at aerospace.mtu.edu
